What to Expect When You Start at First Coast CrossFit
Starting a new exercise routine can feel intimidating, both physically and mentally.
“Am I going to look dumb?”
“Should I get in better shape before I start?”
“Is this even going to work?”
These doubts are completely normal, and they’re often what stop people from ever getting started.
That moment, right before you commit, is the hardest part. And it’s exactly what our onboarding process is designed to support.
When you start with us, you’ll complete a personalized, coach-led onboarding program designed to meet you where you are and guide you step by step.
Whether you’re brand new to exercise or getting back into a routine, our goal is simple: help you feel confident, comfortable, and supported from day one.
Our onboarding process can range anywhere from two weeks to twelve weeks, depending on your comfort level and goals.
Below is a sample flow so you know what to expect—but keep in mind, this process is always tailored to you.
Step 1: Initial Consultation
Your journey begins with a 20–30 minute one-on-one consultation with a coach. This is your opportunity to ask questions, talk through concerns, and clarify your goals for health and fitness.
Whether your focus is weight loss, strength, mobility, confidence, lean muscle, aesthetics, or simply feeling better in your day-to-day life, we can accommodate it.
Most importantly, this is where we establish your “Why.”
Why are you here?
What brought you in today?
What moment made you say, “Enough. It’s time for a change.”?
For some people, it’s frustration with weight gain or feeling stiff and tired all the time. For others, it’s wanting to keep up with their kids, play with their grandkids, or carry a new baby without pain.
At the core, it almost always comes back to the same thing: living a higher-quality life for as long as possible.
Once your “Why” is clear, everything else, showing up, staying consistent, doing uncomfortable things, becomes much easier.
Step 2: One-On-One Coaching Sessions
After your consultation, you’ll begin working one-on-one with your own coach.
All of our onboarding coaches specialize in working with people who are new to exercise. Even if you’ve never worked out a day in your life, you’ll be in excellent hands.
Your first session is a 30-minute private workout where you’ll be introduced to the basics of training and taught how to move safely and confidently.
The goal here isn’t to exhaust you, it’s to build understanding, confidence, and good habits from the start.
Our standard onboarding package includes four one-on-one sessions, but there’s no rush. You’ll move forward only when you feel ready.
And if you decide that private training is the best long-term fit for you, that’s great too. Many of our clients choose to stick with one-on-one coaching indefinitely.
Step 3: Group Training (When You’re Ready)
Once you’re comfortable, most members begin transitioning into small group or large group training.
Small group training feels very similar to private coaching, you still have a coach and a personalized program, just alongside one or two other people.
It’s a great way to build confidence and connect with others, or even train with a friend or family member!
Large group classes typically include 8–15 members and are always led by an expert coach. Every workout is scalable, and we’ll help you modify movements so they fit your needs and abilities.
For most new members, we recommend a mix during the first month or two:
- 1–2 small group sessions per week to ensure personalized support and attention
- 2–3 group classes per week, based on your schedule and comfort level
You are never “thrown in.” Coaching, guidance, and support are always there.
Step 4: Building the New You
After your first month, you’ll sit down with your coach to review your progress and decide what’s next.
Do you want to continue with small group sessions?
Are you ready to move fully into group training?
Would additional support with nutrition be helpful?
Together, we’ll map out your next phase and make sure you’re set up for long-term success.
The first 90 days are the most important when it comes to building a lasting habit, which is why we provide so much structure, encouragement, and accountability early on.
Even after that, we continue to check in with you at least every 90 days to make sure you’re progressing and feeling supported.
By this point, training is no longer something you “try to fit in”; it’s simply part of who you are and how you live.
No matter where you start, you’ll be proud of your progress at the 90-day mark. And by the time you reach one year, you’ll be amazed at how far you’ve come.
